Video animation

Composition 1 is a stop-motion animation developed by Visual Literacy Matters as part of the 2021 Edinburgh Multicultural Festival Programme supported by The City of Edinburgh Council.

The animation tells a story of creating an abstract picture, taking the audience through all the elements of image formation. The two characters create the final abstract image, going through different emotions that leave their mark on the image, revealing the stages, pitfalls and creative outcomes of the process as consecutive layers are added. The story is presented in a way which can easily be received and related to by both children and adults, hopefully making abstract art a little more accessible as well as encouraging for them to engage creatively and critically with visual forms of expression.
